ok, i'm sorry I've kept this information to myself for so long. Some good friends confronted me about it so I'll divulge what I know. There's a really amazing site that is all about degree confluences. To summarize, these are places around the world where latitude and longtitude (those lines on the world map that go around or over the world) intersect. People go there and take pictures, add it to the massive archive HERE and it's just amazing. The people who take the pictures also tend to write briefly of how they came to the point of confluence, and a few other (generally very interesting) things.
Great stories of near arrivals... my bro just read me one of a guy who drove his motorbike from the west side of thailand towards the border of buurma (myanmar) because apparently 2.5 kilometres over the border is a confluence.. but he couldn't make it because of a small hut where some guards waited for just such a person as himself to try going over. The communication was difficult and they finally both concluded that he was doing a "tour de france" because he was on a bike. He pointed past them to ask permission to go through and they pointed at their guns. So.. no go. But a good picture with the guards and a rich story. Jungle was too thick to go around them.
So there are some great stories and beautiful pictures. I really enjoyed some from Japan. Go for a view. And take the kids along, lots of interesting stuff. Better than a lot of the mindless slapstick humor out on the web nowadays like videoclips of kids puking milk, drinking mistakes, or some similar such nonsense.

Luke, you rule. Post more stuff like this. It's cool.
So, why don't you and Peter come out to the Philippines, hire a banca and record some of the many un-photographed spots here? When you have a free weekend...
oh! I would love to! Weekends are hard to travel 15 hours by air (or more) and back again though. I'd have to gain a day, and have a really long weekend (like.. 4 days). And even then, it would be too surreal. Maybe a few week trip. (c: If college falls through or something. (there's always a positive side.)
