Well, I'm back from another trip up north, near the border of Canada. Minnesota has been experiencing a lot of unseasonably warm weather and the snow cover is almost completely gone. This morning I woke up to the sound of thunder and rain. Yesterday it was the sound of geese honking and rain.
Volunteering is going great and I'm finding myself to be more useful (and comfortable) in the classes I'm helping out. For the GED preparatory class I've been pretty much helpful to a narrow population profile. I feel a little over-aware of some lines and barriers. Ah well. I help whoever asks for help. Here's a photo from that class that I'm going to submit for my upcoming job interest.

This past weekend we went up north and I brought my camera this time! Same place as I mentioned before with the sleigh rides and the lake. It already looks different than two weeks ago with all the snow melting so quickly. Slush! Everywhere! This warm spell is putting a halt on their season for sleigh rides, which is a bit unfortunate, but the Lord provides in one way or another. Here are some pictures from up there and the trip back down.
Here is a cozy shot of the inside of the log cabin. The family that runs the sleigh ride business has a beautiful ministry of welcoming every sleigh-riding group into their home to sit down with some hot chocolate after the ride. It was really neat to hear their lives shared with the visitors and to see their genuine hospitality flow out.
Here is Allan being dwarfed by the massive pile of chopped wood which he stacked. While we were up there they put us to good use. Allan has superior wood-stacking skills. We also kept up a lively banter back and forth that the "audience" remarked as "like being back in high school." Hmm.. Regardless, it helped pass the time quickly.
A close-up shot of the logo from the wood-fire stove in the property Chapel. I like Macro shots a lot.

On the way back down we stopped at a national park and trekked to see the "High falls." The walk wasn't very far, but with slushy snow it felt a lot further. It was beautiful, and so nice to be out in nature. Jon and I tried our hardest to break off a large piece of ice upstream from the falls to set off a chain reaction resulting in the collapse of the ice wall in front of the falls... but we failed to move the massive block of ice fully into the stream. Ah well. A better picture below of the falls and said ice wall in front of the falls.

You can see a lot more photos of that trip and others on my flickr page.

Thanks for stopping by and reading! I love seeing your comments! (c:

Nice pictures! I am sure that picture will get you the job... :-)
A picture with your application can only mean one thing, right? International job?
I really love seeing your Midwest photos. I like it here and I really like to see my brother enjoying it too.
That cabin and woodpile are awesome. My woodpile is ghetto in comparison.
Thanks Mom, (c: I actually got contacted last night about a potential placement. Too exciting, I lost sleep!
Daniel, yeah, it is really beautiful up here! And yes, that picture does mean an international job. (c; When things are for sure, I'll post an update about it. But I'm sure you'll hear from me about it when you come for Matt's wedding!
Wow!I have never soon an ice falls! Or even a picture of one. Nice to visit with you last night, Love you.
Love the ice falls pic! What age ELL students are you helping? Are you getting paid? Is it with a Christian organization?
Will you be in the US on May 29th? Heather would sure love for you to attend her wedding!
aunt G
Looks cozy. That's nice you get to experience a midwest winter. Where you going to teach overseas?
Hey Gma! Nice to talk with you as well! (c:
Aunt Gretchen, I'm working with Adult ELL's, and the school is part of a community college. The students in both the GED and ELL class are post-high school aged.
Daniel, yeah, international job. (c; I just responded to the placement agency indicating my interest in one of their proposed locations. We'll see how it pans out! I'm excited and nervous.
Jeff, the location is in Korea, and right now it looks like I may go to Daegu if my interview with the Director of the school is favorable. Unfortunately, the timing would be poor for attending Heather's wedding. )c: But such is the way of things, eh. How did the interview with Germany go?
Oh goodness, Aunt G, I noticed I didn't answer your questions all the way. I'm not getting paid for the volunteer work and it is not a Christian organization.
