We have had the Santa Ana winds yesterday and today. The dry, hot wind blows from the desert east of here every year and makes a second summer. These nights are good for going out and wandering in the warm wind. Also the sunsets are beautiful and clear. The sky has no clouds in it and after the sun goes down there is a great dull red on the horizon that graduates through orange, then yellow on into blue which then darkens into the rest of the night sky. I've only seen a sky like that in the desert.
Feeling a bit pensive with this weather. I enjoy it, but it is so dry and I have had a day long headache. Also have been inside most of the day from work and school. Haven't had enough creative outlet recently and am in much need to do so. Must make something.hm.. wish I had a scanner and a digital camera right now. Soon. maybe next month.
hard to find pictures of a dusk sky like we have now.

I grew up looking forward to the Santa Ana Winds. When you're young, recess is so much more fun when you're being buffetted by 30 mph gusts. We'd lean into the wind and get grit and dust in our eyes annd noses.
I also remember walking hom through streets littered with tree branches, some of which would be quite big. One time we took the biggest ones we could drag home with us and made them into a fort. I'm sure my parents didn't appreciate that.
Of course, the sad thing about the winds is the fires. Last night the sun set behind a giant black cloud in the West. It covered more than half of the Western horizon. It just looked like smog during the day, but the setting sun showed it up for the giant cloud of smoke from that fire over by Ventura.
The strangest thing about the winds is that I can always tell whether or not it's Santa Ana wind conditions when I wake up and see the type of light. There is a different quality to the light, I'm not sure what it is. I think it might be dust in the air is making the light diffused, but at the same time, the skies are so perfectly clear during these winds that it might be the lack of humidity, etc.
good to read both of your comments. The weather sure changed quick today between noon and 3pm. It's gotten cloudly outside and feels like rain, though the air is dry. I wonder if that is the end of the Santa na winds... maybe you won't get to enjoy them this year, eh rob? just don't get knocked out by the bumpy weather. (c: Maybe you could give me a meteorlogical lessons sometime about clouds and 'signs' as far as pending weather goes. I've been kind-of dazzled by the clouds of late. especially the day before those rains we had.. last week? yeah.
jon, santa ana winds are pretty fun. a totally different atmosphere (in all senses of the word). I know what you mean about the sky being hard to describe as well.. it only happens with those winds. Pretty amazing. If I ever move away, I know when to visit. (c: I like SoCal for the Santa Ana winds.
