Sunday: P&A and I went up to Idyllwild to visit Aunt Karen and Nelson. They were to be a wonderful way-point on our 3-point expedition to Joshua Tree (for bouldering) and back. We arrived in a timely fashion but left a bit later than we anticipated... for a few reasons.
1) The weather forecast for Joshua Tree this past weekend was about 45 ° F (7° C), with gusty winds of around 30mph (48kmph). Too cold for enjoyable climbing. We could have climbed and been hard-core about the whole thing.. but really, would we enjoy it? I think not. Especially when compared to...
2) A leisurely morning at Aunt Karen's, playing games and watching the lovely snow fall. (and enjoying the hot tub outside).
3) The final reason we stayed longer was because we couldn't make it up the hill... 30ft from Aunt Karen't drive-way. It was iced over, and our vehicle was a front-wheel drive. So we were stuck, but what a nice place to be stuck at!
The snow kept falling and good times continued to be had. We played many different games and also strategized as to how and when we'd be able to leave so as to get me to work in time. (c: The end of the story is that I got to work a mere half-hour late, and all is well.
Here are some pictures from the weekend. (click on any of them to be transported to my flickr set)
