From the middle

Starting from the top would take more time than any of us have (or have the attention for), so I'll just jump in the middle and go up and down from there.

I'm out in the Midwest! and it's the coldest February I've ever experienced. There is snow all over the ground. When I arrived a couple weeks ago it was sleeting and icy all over the roads. I flew in Monday before last and was picked up by my friend Jon and his cousin/roommate Allan. They'll be my housemates here in Minneapolis for the next while.

Some things I've noticed about Minneapolis and by exaggerated extrapolation, the whole of the mid-west:

They've a ridiculous yet functional freeway system. Often the way to merge onto or off of a freeway is by way of tightly looped off/on ramps which have a dashed line at contact with the freeway.. one must still merge over, and often there is only two freeway lanes to begin with. It works because there are so few cars, and because people tend to be more gracious in letting others into their lane (compared to LA).

Frozen lakes.. EVERYWHERE! It is really beautiful how many trees and lakes are scattered across the landscape. I'm sure it is all the more beautiful when there is foliage and liquid water.

The people are friendly once you get them talking.

I guess I don't have a lot of impressions yet.

Yesterday at church I ran into Bill B. who a team of us worked with six years ago doing presentations after serving onboard the goodship Doulos. He was sitting right next to us and turned to say "Hello" during the greet phase of the service and I exclaimed, "I know you!" It was great meeting him and his wife again. I'd been hoping to make contact with them ever since I decided to come to Minneapolis. There are a few other people in the area I'm also hoping to meet up with sooner or later.

Well, laundry is just about done so I'll wrap this up. Hopefully will have more to write about soon. (c: As a side note, Jon and I've taken up the hobby of recreational lock-picking. It's challenging and there's a particular lock which defies me.

It's fun to hear your impressions. I was going to tell you that Dan and Amy Larson are in that area, and my brother. We are coming up in March for his wedding and hoping you will still be there. I can think of a few more people that are there, but you probably know them all already.

Hi Luke! good to hear from you. Your friend came by tonight to pick up those instruments. He was very pleased. Love you. Grandma My password isn't working
