A Year Past

The year is over and it seems like now is the time for everyone to be online updating their blogs, facebook statuses, etc.. and I'm following suit.

I got back in LA yesterday at about 5pm. Back from where?! Many of you already know the answer, but for those of you who don't: From "Up North." (c: I took my ultra-faithful '93 Toyota Paseo up to Seattle and back again to spend the holidays with friends and family who live between here and the Canucks. It was a whirlwind trip, but so great to see everyone who I did get to see. Even getting ready for the trip was full of last-minute chaos, but on the 19th I managed to spend precious time with friends and family before leaving for San Jose at about 6pm.

Backing up a little bit. On the 18th of December I graduated from Biola University with a B.S. in Organizational Leadership. I've been working full-time at Biola University for a little more than four years, and the University (and more specifically my department) has been so instrumental in making the pursuit of the degree possible. It has been a great blessing to have friends, family and coworkers who've been so supportive. I managed to get in on the tail-end of a program Biola has for it's employees that provides a significant reduction in tuition for classes and as a result have graduated without any debt. It's hard for me to fully grasp how amazing that is, but I'm already considering the freedoms it has given me. I'll return to this after recounting some of the time spent up north.

I'll try and assemble a google map insert with all the driving I did in a little bit, but I'll summarize here.
Day 1: (Evening) Drive up to San Jose. 372 miles. (600km)
Day 3: (Morning) Drive ALL the way to Portland. 670 miles. (1080km)
Day 4: (Morning) Drive up to Seattle and then to Olympia. 226 miles. (365km)
Day 6: (Afternoon) Drive to Portland and back to Olympia. 250 miles. (400km)
Day 10: (Evening) Drive back down to Portland. 127 miles. (200km)
Day : Drive down to San Jose ALL the way from Portland. 670 miles. (1080km)
Day yesterday: Drive down from San Jose back to LA. 372 miles (which doesn't seem very far anymore). (600km)

Grand total: about 2700 miles! (4345km) Not bad for my first road-trip. (c:

Well, it is a week after I wrote the above. I'm in the middle of my final week working here for Biola University in their Central Plant. I won't talk much about what's coming up because I like to keep my posts about the present and the past and let the future write itself later. ^^ Even so, many of you already know what I hope to be doing in the upcoming week, weeks, months and maybe even year, and years ahead.

We've got a new guy to replace me here in the Plant and I can't help calling him "new guy" but he already seems very competent and a better skill fit for the job than I've been. This a great answer to my prayers, and I'm sure he's an answer to the prayers of my co-workers as well. With leaving work and press of upcoming adventures I feel unsettled and jumbled up inside already. There are things I'm learning about myself that only seem to come up in these transition points. I hope to get this blog much more regularly updated with thought, pictures, doings etc.. no promises since we all know how fickle blogging can be. dc:

Luke,
I have 5-7 pictures from your Graduation Open House. How should I get them to you? I can email them, but I do not know your address. Or I can put them on Facebook although I don't know how.

Thanks Luke, for the nice report. I like knowing how many miles you drove each day on your big road trip. I hope you're feeling settled. It'll be nice to read about how that's going. I look forward to reading your blogs!
