Starbucks?

Dear Starbucks Franchise,

I am making this comment both for myself and on behalf of others, including yourselves. My exclamation of dismay is with regards to the caffeinated drink which I received last night after expressly asking for 'decaf'.

Place yourself sympathetically in my shoes for a moment... here you are desiring to read a good book somewhere with good atmosphere and yet not too noisy.. Starbucks sounds like a good place, but coffee doesn't sound so great as you intend to return home and sleep by 11:30pm. So, desiring the taste of coffee without it's stimulating effects, and the atmosphere of Starbucks, you go and ask for a 'decaf'. Here you're returned a cup of steaming brew and just to be sure, you ask, "That's decaf right?" response from the barista, "Yep, super-decaf." Great! Good coffee, good book, and good sleep. Ahh... but not so. The "good sleep" part is robbed by the "good coffee".

"Ha ha.." maybe it's a funny prank to play on our customers, right? Well, it certainly is an insensitive one, and not good for the company either as it disinclines your customers to return if they can't have a certainty as to the chemistry of their beverage.

Ah well, I got a lot done last night as I lay awake and thought.

actually, I'm not really an "ex-patron" maybe just a regular coffee patron now. My decaf side (as minute as it ever was) is the only part that is much disenchanted by starbucks. (c:

See Luke, the key is to consume so much caffeine that you become immune to it's effects. It's the only way to be sure that it won't happen again! As they say, if you can't trust 'em, join 'em.

One of my favorite topics (java), by the way... nice job.

wow nathan! you're really quick on the blog! I used to have an immunity to caffeine but started going off of it for a while because I thought it made me a bit cranky overall or something (mood swings). So I've been off it, except for the occasional soft-drink and cup of coffee. Ah well, I suppose I could become an interesting mood-swinging individual and join up with the coffee conspiracy. (c: lol!

well, I must be a sucker for punishment 'cause I went back in for a decaf last night. (c: Actually, it was because I wanted a job app. but felt like it is bad to just go and get an app without buying something. (not polite or something?)

Anyway, so I asked for the coffee and the guy found to his dismay that the decaf was cold... so he asked if I minded waiting for him to make a new batch. "no worries" was my reply, and he gave me the coffee for free since, "a person shouldn't have to wait to get their coffee". (c: Sweet! I'm once again happy with Starbucks!

Here's a little tidbit for you, which may not be entirely acurate, but interesting anyway...
Decaf coffee still has some caffeine, only a fraction of the regular. Caffeine blocks the chemical that reabsorbs adrenaline from your system (removing it from the blood stream), so the caffeine itself does little to stop the sleep, but if anything gets you woked up, excited, or scared, forget sleeping.
