This past weekend was a lot of fun. Saturday I went swimming at the Taylors and took my underwater camera along to take pictures. Jacob had a similar setup for his camera. There are a lot of interesting shots, but not all that creative or amazing. I did get some ideas for the next time. Things like underwater martial arts, or maybe seeing what a laser in a dark pool looks like. (c: I'll try and include a link to the set of pictures on Flickr.
Also this past weekend was a visit from Philisha! It was a happy reunion with them, and fun to see how far along Alisha is in her pregnancy. We're all excited to meet little Noah (Xazinaty). (c: Here's Flickr set link.

Though a fantastic weekend for swimming, it really was a terrible weekend for visiting California because of the heat. It's been record-breaking hot this past weekend with temps lingering around 105F (40.6 C). Normally that wouldn't be so bad, but the humidity has been high as well. Evenings haven't been any relief because the ambient warmth lingers through the night. Need I say that I long for Fall and Winter weather? I really miss rain.
I got Collective Soul's latest album "Afterwords", and it is quite good. I have one complaint, and that is the song "Hollywood". Why, oh why did they put so much focus and publicity on that song which is such rubbish compared to the others? There is a lot of variety on the album and it is easy to sense how they sort-of sampled different popular (current) styles of music and incorporated that into this album.

Those are some sweet underwater pictures there, Luke! :) -Cynthe
Concerning Mother Teresa, Jon's probably mentioned this, but there is a strong Christian tradition of the 'dark night of the soul.' CS Lewis writes about this in Mere Christianity too, I think. Even though it may sound trite, I think it makes sense in her case. How else can someone come to empathize with people in such a plight as those in India? But maybe this isn't born out in her letters, I don't know. I think dealing with depression in my own life has made me a more empathetic person, at least to some degree. I definitely want to read that book, though.
I'd have to read Mother Teresa's book to get a real frame of reference, but I know that in orthodox Catholic Theology the believer is never justified until after death. Consequenctly, hell's flames are never far from the possibility of one's destiny. Scary. Really, it's only through the blood of Christ that the darkness of our soul is put to death. The dark night that Eric referenced is our journey through that birth canal. The spirit breaks free, and the soul is torn.(Heb 4:12) I really wonder though if that was what actually troubled her.
I just read the Time magazine review. Looks like an interesting book. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts in greater depth.
