starting groups

Well, I started a group on Facebook. It's called "Saving Face" and it is about the business of creatively saving while still remaining active socially. The culture I'm part of tends to be very spendy. We go and watch movies, go wall-climbing, eat at mid-scale restaurants, etc... and it all adds up. To be quite honest, many of my friends can't really afford to live that way. So i want to help save face socially by stating that I'm all about them (and myself) using our money more effectively. We should group together and watch netflix films that people have, eat home-cooked (breakfasts?), chill in the park, etc... cheap/free things. Oh, and the dollar theatre. (c:

Good for you. It is an easy habit to get into and very hard to break. It is especially hard to make a sudden break when spendy singles get married and are faced, at the same time, with paying on college debt. The abrupt onslaught of reality can be quite daunting, and hard of the marriage.

Also, good stewardship of our resources is always a good thing, and I am sure that is also part of your thinking.

Good idea. Lots of people think they deserve cool stuff or experiences when they become grown-ups. It quickly gets out of hand...

Good for you! I recently saw a woman pull up in a really beat up looking Subaru with several kids in her car. I immediately started wondering who it was, were they really poor? Would they look dumpy in their appearance as well? They got out, were all dressed and groomed nicely and seemed like a pretty happy little family. As I was pulling out of my parking space, I saw the bumper sticker on their car that said "Act Your Wage!" I suddenly liked them so much, and was so refreshed to see someone driving a car that was completely payed for, not trying to look wealthier than they were-- but I'll bet they're actually much more well off than the average American family driving a new car!
