not much happenings

At least, that's how it seems from my perspectives. To be quite honest, more should be happening that isn't, but that's for later.

Weekends are packed with as much as I can socially do without spreading too thin. This past Saturday I got to go surfing with the Floyd boys and Will. Going was great, being there was also great, but the surfing itself was not so great. Ah well. I hope to go again during this week.. likely Friday, though the waves are supposed to be shockingly (i.e. terrifyingly) good, which makes me nervous. Exciting!

Stats class is going very well. I understand what's happening and how different ways of slicing information can provide different perspectives and what those perspectives are. All in all, a pretty intriguing field, if one can get good information/data. That's a surprisingly big "if".

Got a haircut. Cousin G, does a fantastic job as always, and it is great talking and catching up while she works. (c:

Been feeding my international side a bit more. On Satuday evening I watched "Guns and Talks" 킬러들의 수다. Korean film, which I find to be really funny. (c: It's a unique humor, so.... I can't recommend it to most. The movie follows some assasins doing there job and soundly places the blame for murders/assasinations on the people who want other people killed (as opposed to considering what the assassins do to be wrong). That's a point the movie makes, but the content of the movie rises beyond that point, which is what is enjoyable to me.
A great movie is JSA (Joint Security Area) which explores the brotherhood between north and south Korea. A difficult movie and I haven't seen it recently enough to recall how much violence/language/etc.. that it has in it.

Some music I've recieved recently:
Souad Massi. She's a native born Algerian who writes her own music and lyrics. I was craving arabic music a while back, and went hunting around the internets to find some samples. I found a few videos of hers on youtube and decided to get a couple albums. I'm happy with them. She has a great voice, and is very nice to listen to. A bit haunting. My brother brother Peter looked at the lyrics and said most of them are quite despondent.. so I guess it makes sense that her music is... a little sad. She sings in Algerian Arabic, French, and a bit of English and her local Kabyle.

Anouar Braheh (أنور ابراهم). A Tunisian oud player who combines his music with other artists into a fusion of classic Arabic music, folk music and jazz. I haven't listened to much of this yet, but what I have heard has been great. Jazz with a distinct Arabic tone. (c:

Other activities... Wall-climbing on Sunday w/ cousin Phil and Peter went really well. The gym we go to has recently changed its grips around, and added a new area... all which have been more challenging than before. Lastly, an acknowledgement: I enjoy playing video games. It's true. I don't play often, but after at least a few months I'm about 30 hours into Final Fantasy X (ten). Which should be around... 3/4's of the way through the game?

Yep, and that sums up my life right now.

I've actually been pretty hooked on Souad Massi lately. Jeff picked up her CD at our library for me, and I love it. Somehow, when you don't understand the lyrics you can listen to music over and over for longer without getting tired of it.
