Long Dusk

We're losing light, fast. The evenings here in SoCal have been coming sooner and sooner (as is normal for this time of year), but add to that all the smoke from the fires, and we have a 4:30pm sunset and a dusk period that lasts until nearly 7pm.

I had a great dinner at the Gparents this evening, Beef Stew. P&A joined up a bit later after a bout of wall-climbing. Soon after that I had to get to work, and as I stepped outside I noticed how much the moon looks like a lunar eclipse. (Red). It looked at least as red as the actual eclipse I got up to see at 3am in August. The night sky also looked strange... it was definitely a dark dark violet. Much like ultra-violet (well.. the fringe of visible light).

These days have been so warm and dry. The winds have been blowing off of the desert. They call them Santa Ana winds and I usually love this time of year. I still like it, but the fires have changed the atmosphere quite a lot. On normal Santa Ana wind days, the sky looks very clear and generally stays quite bright after sunset because of all the high dust in the air. Now it is murky and brown...

Statistics class finished up well. I think I passed. I think I actually passed very well. (c: The next class is Theology of Christian Life. I expect this class to be VERY interesting, particularly because I have such a broad exposure to Christianity. I say broad from having family who are Eastern Orthodox, parents who are non-denom missionaries, Gparents who are evangelists (and missions minded), siblings who have counter-evangelical Christian views, and friends who are Catholic, Anglican, and otherwise non-conventional thinkers/believers.
Yes, I expect this class to be very interesting indeed. (c: Oh, add charismatic/pentecostal to the mix as well, as I've some dear family who're Spirit led. And I just remembered, some Reformed friends as well.

I'm sure I'm stepping on some toes by the way I phrased all of that, but I don't mean to be, so don't take it that way. It's just a un-corrected summary of my different exposures.

Sorry no recent pictures have gone up lately. I'll try and find the latest and greatest, but there aren't many great, so... settle for less, I guess.

Your description of the way thinks look was good! I was wondering how it looked in the Whittier/La Habra area. glad you are looking forward to your next class! Yes, It is really healthy, I think, to have exposure to different ways of seeing various aspects of pleasing and walking with God. I am sure you will learn much and have much to contribute.

I know how you feel as you list off the different orientations to the Christian Life. It's almost impossible to express the point without doing it, but isn't it interesting to look at the list? As Christians, we are called to unity with each other, but there's just no way at this point in church history to keep from being defined by doctrinial issues. I think this is a weakness in the Church, because the point ultimately is knowing, and being known by, Jesus. Doctrine is good, but not where the life is found. If we as the Church barracade ourselves from other Christians because of doctrinal issues, we are missing the main point of the Christan Life.

I think that as time marches on, the church is going to become more unified. We are the bride of Christ. Right now we seem kind of scitzophrenic. But, some day we will bridge over to the unity you find in Revelation where Heaven is full of people from every tribe and nation praising Jesus. Maybe it will be in Heaven, maybe on Earth.
