speaking of gastronomy

Here is an article that just got put up relating to probiotics. I recommend giving it a read, whether you agree or not, just so you know some of the thinking that is going on out there.

And don't forget to eat a bit dirty. (c:

We had a recent bout with stomach flu and held a little game called Survivor: Who Can Keep From Barfing in a 400 sq. foot house (that smells like barf) with 7 Occupants and One Bathroom? The winner? Sylvan. (Cedar wasn't playing) Sylvan must have an abundant amount of that ancient bacteria that WIRED was talking about. We're speculating that he washes his hands the least and has become immune to the woes of modernity because of it.

I like this article. It has always made me crazy to see everyone using antibacterial hand cleansers, wipes, sprays, soaps, etc. Is bacteria really that terrifying? Plus, I couldn't help but notice that it seemed that the people who used these the most religiously were the ones who got sick the most. It is basic biology that we live in a balance of good and bad bacteria, and that MOST of it is actually good! Here's to its proliferation within us!
