abreviates

It's been a long time since I've mentioned Cebuano on my blog, so here's another tidbit of fascinating information!

To say "let's go" the long way is "magadto na kita" (are going now we), but the short form is "ta na ta". Amazing, isn't it?

btw, mom, what doess "makig-adto" mean?

pagka-adto - at the time of going
inig-adto - whereupon going
maka-adto - possible to go
ang pag-adto - the doing-going (the way to go)

and lastly, another great small word: "Tua", which means "over there". For example, "tua sila sa dalan" means: "over there they at road" (or, they're at the road)

Fun! I am actually doing a series of Cebuano grammar lessons for a blog frequented by expats living in Mindanao. I may publish it later as an Ebook.

Makig is not used with adto. Makighigala means to make friends. Pakighilawas means, literally, 'what bodies do' and refers to sex.

You can shorten 'Let's go!" to "Ta na!"
