running commentary

Well, running is still going really well. I sprinted the last 8th of a mile today and could have run more. But better to keep it an enjoyable thing, eh? I know if I lose momentum on this running thing, there'll be no more, so I'm keeping it short, enjoyable and not too strenuous.

We had a quick weather change the last couple of days.. there was HOT weather from another set of Santa Ana winds (winds off the desert, extremely dry and warm). And then last night I was surprised to feel the heavy humidity of the air... and now we have LOTS of fog. I love it! Driving to the track where I run was actually a bit challenging because the fog was so thick. Good to have genuine Febuary weather.

On another note, since I'm taking an aikido class at school I've started paying attention to posture. My posture isn't that great, my head goes forward and my back has a nice 'slump' curve in it. But since I've been working on my posture my lower back has started to hurt. Hmm. I'm starting to lose faith in all this 'proper posture' stuff. Seems that my back hurts regardless of how I sit now, so... I'll keep it up (proper posture), and hope it goes away. To be quite honest, I started sitting straighter after going to the school library and seeing some of the students there who were studying but looked like they were about to play on a piano. I guess you could say I was impressed. (c:

As soon as I hook up my camera, I'll add some great (i think they're great) pictures. Coming very soon, (today).

On posture:
The reason your low back is hurting is that when you are slumped forward, your pecs and frontal ab muscles support your upper back. Now that you are standing in proper alignment, you are placing your upper body's weight (about 15 to 20 lbs) on your low back. Keep it up and your back will become stronger. Doing deep ab work, like that in Pilates, and back extensions will also help your back become stronger. Be sure to stretch out your back too.

Did that count as a knowledge rant?

What did I tell you about cracking your back? Though I agree with what the proprietor says.
I don't have such good posture either, maybe I need to work on mine too?! Keep up with the running thats cool if you can get into the habit of it.

I do enjoy running quite a bit, which I think is strange, because I haven't always enjoyed running much. It has seemed like a chore, but I resolutely decided to enjoy it, and to take it easy, light but steady and that seems to be paying off. One thing that is inspiring is seeing other people who love running. Makes me want to love it too. Kinda like God and seeing other people's love for Him inspires the same kind of love in me. (c:
